The EnergieKnip makes residents more aware of energy consumption and energy saving opportunities. In addition, the App provides information about subsidies for energy-saving measures available within a municipality, and guarantees those funds to be spent at local stores and business owners.

The Municipality of Emmen is the first party to start using this App and immediately launching the largest public blockchain project in the Netherlands. With the app based on this blockchain technology, residents can participate in the savings campaign anonymously and fraud is not possible. It was the first time in the Netherlands that blockchain technology was used by a municipality or government on this scale.
